Recently, I had the pleasure of recording the audiobook of Remembered.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love having a microphone in my hand. I don't know why but microphones make me happy. So when I had the opportunity to audition for the part, there was no way I could turn it down.
I was super excited when I got it. The opportunity came with the chance to work with a voice acting coach from Blackstone Publishing. I have done voice over work and read regularly at spoken word nights, readings, and storytelling and literary events. Still, I wasn't quite prepared for the emotional work of voice acting.
The voice acting coach was patient and challenged me to go beyond my own personality and aim to bring the characters to life. I hope I did them justice.
Between you and me, even when I was recording it, I was surprised by what sounds (to me) like a southern accent. I'm not even from the South. Maybe that was Spring claiming roots we don't share, making her voice known, and empowering me to tell her story her way.
Here's an extract if you'd like to have a listen.
